A new report shows cloud backup and recovery solutions are growing at an accelerated pace, as enterprises transition away from traditional data protection categories.
“The global cloud backup market size was $1.2 billion in 2017 and is expected to reach $6.82 billion by the end of 2025, with a CAGR of 23.4% during 2018-2025,” states the report by HTF Market Intelligence. “Increasing adoption of cloud-based technologies and the need to manage voluminous data sets in enterprises has led to the adoption of cloud backup solutions. The growth of cloud backup solutions has also increased due to simple management and monitoring, real-time backup and recovery, simple integration of cloud backup with other applications in the enterprise, data deduplication, and timely customer support.”
We’re seeing this reflected in our business here at Nasuni. Although Nasuni Cloud File Services™ is often thought of as the modern cloud NAS alternative to refreshing Dell EMC Isilon, NetApp, and Windows file server storage, many of our customers choose Nasuni because we also eliminate the need for legacy file backup.
Nasuni Continuous File Versioning™ technology – included as part of our platform – writes all file changes as they occur as WORM objects in cloud object storage, creating an infinite version history of every file. IT can restore any version of any file to any edge appliance, anywhere in the world, in a matter of seconds. If permitted by IT, users can also recover previous versions of any file through self-service, using standard tools like the Windows Explorer Previous Versions feature. By offering more granular recovery points and faster recovery times, the cost and complexity of traditional file backup is no longer needed.
Here’s what Global Technology Director Don Pointing at Fortune 500 advertising giant TBWA says about using Nasuni as a cloud backup solution: “Taking away the need to do traditional tape backups was very important. Nasuni’s continuous snapshots enables us to protect data in a consistent way, globally. We’ve had offices go offline because of natural disasters in the past, and they were unable to work for over a week. Their RPOs and RTOs were inconsistent and often inadequate. Now, we can get files back quickly to very recent restore points. And if a disaster does occur, it’s a matter of hours, if that.”

As you can see, not only does Nasuni replace legacy NAS and file servers with a modern cloud NAS solution, but it also replaces legacy full and incremental backups with a modern cloud backup solution.
