Momentum in Energy: Nasuni & Cegal Launch Strategic Partnership

When I first started speaking with energy firms about Nasuni, my presentations were typically met with doubt and disbelief. They didn’t question that Nasuni could provide effortless scale, built-in security, and fast performance for companies in media, engineering or other industries, but they figured the energy vertical was too demanding. The assumption was that energy firms need to manage too much file data across too many global locations for a cloud-based data platform. Then we started proving Nasuni’s hybrid cloud storage capabilities customer by customer.

Today, our technology is managing PBs of file data for some of the largest operators in the world, enabling them to leverage the scale and cost savings of cloud object storage whilst shrinking their data center footprints and generally reducing their reliance on storage hardware. At the same time, Nasuni is extending fast, collaborative file access everywhere from major offices to remote sites, and protecting all that file data against ransomware and other threats. As a result, we’re experiencing exponential growth in the sector, including a 235% increase in managed energy data since Q1 2022.

Today I’m excited to share that we are strengthening our focus on the energy industry through a strategic partnership with Cegal, the global leader in providing digital solutions for the energy industry. This is a brilliant partnership. Cegal has an established track record of helping organizations with challenging IT transformations, and Nasuni’s extensive experience with global energy leaders has turned us into experts at designing and implementing the most efficient cloud transitions possible.

This kind of pairing is powerful because the energy industry is different. Energy firms need to quickly and easily share ever increasing amounts of extremely large seismic data, 3D CAD renderings, and interpretation models at a global scale. They have people working out of offices, homes, and remote sites, including offshore rigs, and all of these users need fast, reliable file access. Latency is no mere inconvenience; it costs firms money. Minimizing delays and accelerating time to oil is essential. And with the industry experiencing record-high cyberattacks on infrastructure, advanced data protection against threats like ransomware is more important than ever.

Energy firms need trusted partners like Cegal and reliable, high-performance solutions like Nasuni. Our momentum in the space is no accident. Nasuni’s hybrid cloud storage platform is uniquely matched to the specific strategic needs of the industry. For global operators like Petronas, Neptune Energy, BOW Energy, and many others, we provide:

Fast file access from anywhere

Proven, rapid access to data globally reduces seismic interpretation times, diminishing disruption caused by sharing files across limited networks and enabling resources to reside anywhere in the world. We’ve demonstrated that geoscientists can access seismic data and work efficiently from anywhere.

Complete cyber resiliency

Nasuni’s cloud-native architecture includes continuous file versioning to the immutable object store. Our industry-first ransomware detection at the edge mitigates attacks and enables instant recovery of data even at petabyte scale, delivering business continuity even when ransomware hits. The outcome for customers is incredible. It is a globally consistent SLA of seconds/minutes for recovery, from any site with any amount of data.

Seamless hybrid-cloud infrastructure

Fundamentally, Nasuni transforms traditional infrastructure, providing effortless scale, along with the ability to share workloads and ensure data portability between cloud and SaaS platforms for increased flexibility and cost savings.

I’ll give you an example. One of our customers started looking at Nasuni because the firm’s highly trained geoscientists were hampered by an expensive file infrastructure that limited collaboration between multiple global hubs. The scientists need to be able to access Petrel and Paradigm data from anywhere to determine the potential productivity of reservoirs. Our hybrid cloud storage service makes this possible. Now that they have transitioned to Nasuni, file data scales in cost-effective cloud object storage, but caching edge appliances ensure fast local access at all locations. This way, remote geoscientists can work quickly and collaboratively without productivity-killing delays. Furthermore, file data is better protected thanks to Nasuni’s ransomware protection and unlimited, continuous file versioning to the cloud, and the firm strengthened its cyber resilience without increasing costs.

Energy companies need proven platforms they can rely upon — and trusted partners that can provide guidance and assurances that a given solution is right for them. They need to know that a technology will be capable of managing the huge datasets, performance demands, and flexibility their business requires, and Nasuni has proven this again and again. Our partnership with Cegal is going to extend our global reach and accelerate our growth in the space. We’re excited about the trust we’ve earned in the energy industry and we look forward to working with Cegal to put our technology to work for more energy industry leaders in the months and years ahead.
