Nasuni Product Test Drive – Initial Configuration

Storage Switzerland recently began testing the Nasuni Filer, a virtual file server with capacity provisioned by the cloud. Each of these aspects; virtual, file server, cloud, need to be examined and explored which is what we will do over the next several months. As is the case in our typical testing strategy we will eventually move the product into our production environment to be able to provide a day to day real world use report. Based on the initial implementation we expect that move to production to happen much faster than with any other product we have tested.

A cloud enabled virtual file server has the potential to bring tremendous value to data centers of all sizes. In fact running a file server as a virtual machine, forgetting the cloud aspect, has already captured our attention. Having strong virtual file services will enable us to shut down and decommission yet another noisy, power consuming server in the lab.
