Disaster Recovery, Data Access, Savings: Nasuni Delivers on Top Gartner Use Cases

Nasuni’s Lance Shaw discusses his takeaways from Gartner’s 2025 Market Guide for Hybrid Cloud Storage report.

IT solution sprawl has been a headache for at least a quarter century. Every year, as new threats and needs arise, a new set of solutions springs up to address them. As an IT director, your job only gets more complex. For that reason, the Gartner Market Guide for Hybrid Cloud Storage is invaluable for anyone considering the shift to hybrid cloud storage, exploring new hybrid solutions, or looking for an upgrade to their current systems.

We’re proud to note that the Nasuni File Data Platform delivers on top Gartner use cases, including disaster recovery, data access, and savings, not to mention easily scalable capacity, standardization, and additional value-added services. Yet I don’t envy the IT professional tasked with evaluating possible solutions.

In their report, Gartner evaluates 40 different vendors spread across five categories, placing Nasuni alongside Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, and AWS solutions in the hybrid cloud platform and data transfer sector. It’s essential reading for any technology leader, and I encourage you to set aside a few minutes to dive into Gartner’s analysis.

But how do you evaluate 40 different vendors? How do you pick the right solution for your organization when your needs don’t align perfectly with those categories? I’d suggest focusing on four broad metrics, outlined below.

1. Business Outcome

Whether you are moving to hybrid cloud storage for the first time or re-evaluating your initial vendor(s), the main question should be what a given solution is going to do for your business.

Do you want to strengthen your resilience against ransomware attacks and other disasters? Switch to a solution that aligns with your AI initiatives? Find a system that accelerates file and data sharing between users or groups in distant locations? The more you focus on the ultimate impact on your business, the better your chances of identifying a hybrid cloud storage solution that will meet your organizational needs for years to come.

2. Operational Excellence

This ties into the same theme of focusing on business outcomes. Any hybrid cloud storage solution should not only meet your immediate requirements but generally foster operational excellence across your business. An effective modern hybrid cloud storage solution should give all of your users across the globe the tools to work more efficiently and effectively, whether that involves AI readiness, faster file access, flexible capacity, or rapid disaster recovery.

3. Versatility

The number of vendors in Gartner’s report and the range of capabilities associated with each is a little overwhelming. No single vendor does everything well. Yet you don’t need to choose five different solutions to match each of Gartner’s five categories. There’s plenty of overlap. I’d suggest narrowing your options by identifying the most versatile solutions — the ones that meet as many of your business needs as possible.

4. Cost

Figuring the total cost of ownership (TCO) of a hybrid cloud storage solution is not a simple calculation. Some appear inexpensive on the surface only to reveal high egress fees or other hidden costs. The more versatile platforms have a more expensive sticker price but deliver cost savings by rendering other solutions redundant and reducing overall TCO.

Ultimately, we live in unusual and highly uncertain times. Cost has to be a factor in any IT decision you make, and I’d encourage an extensive analysis of your three- to five-year costs.

Navigating with Confidence

Finding the right hybrid cloud storage solution can be daunting, but by focusing on business outcomes, operational excellence, versatility, and cost, you can cut through the noise and make a confident, future-ready decision.

The Gartner Market Guide for Hybrid Cloud Storage offers valuable perspective, and we’re proud that Nasuni is featured alongside leading platforms for delivering on key enterprise needs. If you’re ready to simplify your infrastructure, strengthen resilience, and drive long-term value, we’re ready to show you how Nasuni can help.
