Nasuni Extends Flagship File Services Platform With Spring 2018 Release
April 30, 2018
New Additions Bring Greater Performance, Manageability, and Security to Customers Using Nasuni’s Global File System and Cloud Storage for Multi-Site File Collaboration and NAS Consolidation
LAS VEGAS, NV – April 30, 2018 – Today at Dell Technologies World, Nasuni, the leading provider of cloud-scale enterprise file services, announced a new release of its flagship platform that uses cloud object storage to modernize NAS, file server, backup, and disaster recovery infrastructure. The Nasuni® Spring 2018 Release (Version 8.0) adds performance and manageability enhancements that set a new standard for secure, scalable file storage and multi-site file synchronization. Customers can now store and share files faster than ever before, and leverage new integration between Nasuni and the Varonis® Data Security Platform to protect unstructured data from cyberattacks and insider threats.
New features in the Nasuni Spring 2018 Release include:
- Faster multi-site file propagation. Optimizations to the Nasuni UniFS® global file system, which stores all files and metadata in private or public cloud object storage, and Nasuni Edge Appliances, which cache the active parts of UniFS anywhere high performance file access is needed, can now propagate file changes up to 40% faster than the previous release.
- Improved performance of Nasuni Global File Locking™. Optimizations to the Nasuni Global File Locking service, which prevents multiple workers from editing the same file at the same time to avoid version conflict and data loss, increase IOPS 35% over the previous version, based on results from testing against the SPEC SFS® standard.
- Faster large directory performance. Case-insensitive directories with more than 5,000 files will see up to a 9X increase in the performance of read, write, and browsing operations. Testing shows IO performance stays consistent even as the number of files grows from 5,000 to 100,000 and beyond.
- RESTful Nasuni API extensions. The REST-based Nasuni management API adds more read and write interfaces, including the ability to create volumes, shares, and folder quotas and rules. A PowerShell library and code samples for Python, Node.js, and Ruby simplify orchestrating and automating Nasuni from external workflow and management tools.
- Increased Nasuni Edge Appliance performance. New hardware appliances based on the flash-optimized Dell 14G platform increase IOPS up to 71% based on SPEC SFS® workload testing.
- Integration with the Varonis® Data Security Platform. Integration between Nasuni and Varonis helps protect enterprise files from cyberattacks and insider threats, while addressing GDPR and other privacy and compliance regulations (see related press release, “Nasuni Announces Support for Varonis Data Security Platform”).
- “Safe Delete” volume protection. A new option that requires multiple IT administrators to approve a request to delete a volume adds further safeguards against data loss.
“The ability of our global file system to store and synchronize files at scale across any number of locations is regarded by our customers as one of our strongest differentiators,” said Russ Kennedy, Nasuni Chief Product Officer. “This new release, and the ones coming next, significantly extend that unique advantage with major performance improvements, while offering new enterprise-class features that enable Nasuni to be deployed faster and integrated more tightly with existing IT infrastructure.”
The Nasuni Spring 2018 Release will be generally available starting in May.
