A New Beginning: Nasuni Appoints Sam King as Chief Executive Officer

Paul Flanagan discusses Nasuni’s latest announcement: Appointing Sam King as its new Chief Executive Officer.

April 1, 2025  |  Paul Flanagan

Eight years ago today I joined Nasuni as CEO. There were around 50 of us in the company at the time, with just over $10M in unprofitable software revenue and not a lot of cash. However, what we did have was a big market, strong vision, good technology, and some of the best folks I’ve ever had the privilege of working with! Over the next 8 years, along with the rest of the world, we navigated through difficult stock markets, a global pandemic, inflation, political uncertainty, and rising geopolitical conflicts.

Through it all, we remained focused on our two most valuable assets – our employees and our customers. Fast forward to today and we’ve grown over 15X to nearly 1,000 customers, are profitable and have industry leading customer satisfaction metrics. In 2024 we obtained a $1.2B valuation in our majority investment by Vista Equity Partners, KKR and TCV. And we’ve grown to nearly 600 employees with a phenomenal culture. I love that I have been able to see careers start and grow, countless marriages and welcomed many new baby Nasunistas into the world. It has been a wonderful journey!

And the journey for Nasuni continues! But to fully seize the market opportunity ahead, we’ll need to expand on our capabilities, offerings, and talent. We will need to continue our focus on quality and delivering world-class customer support. And to ensure we deliver on this market opportunity, we need to make sure we have the right leadership in place for Nasuni to achieve its full potential.

That is why I am truly pleased to announce that Sam King will join us as the new Chief Executive Officer of Nasuni, effective April 1. Sam is a pioneering technology executive and cybersecurity leader with an impressive track record of scaling companies and driving transformation. As CEO of Veracode from 2019-2024, she orchestrated the evolution from a flagship security testing product into a comprehensive AI-driven application security platform through strategic M&A and organic innovation initiatives. Under her leadership, Sam transformed Veracode’s go-to-market strategy, expanding to enterprises, the federal sector and scaling international operations across EMEA and APAC. She achieved market-leading profitable growth in the application security sector, driving several hundred million in revenues. Sam successfully navigated multiple ownership transitions including a multi-billion-dollar exit. Sam is a recognized thought leader in the cybersecurity and technology sectors, having been honored as EY’s Entrepreneur of the Year for New England and Executive of the Year by the Executive Women’s Forum. We’re delighted to welcome her expertise, leadership, and vision to our team.

So, what am I doing? After almost 40 years of being involved in start-ups and early-stage growth companies, I’ve decided to retire from operations and my CEO role at Nasuni and transition to the role of non-executive Chairman. I will remain actively involved as a member of the Nasuni Board of Directors and will continue to support the company however necessary, in partnership with Sam as she leads us on this next phase of our journey.

Final words – thank you to all our board members, customers, partners, and investors. You have all contributed in helping to build Nasuni. Most of all, thank you to all our employees! I know how hard you have all worked to get Nasuni to where it is in today and I hope you know how much I appreciate it. I have given you everything I have to give in return. I hope it was enough. I love you all.
