Körber’s journey to the cloud with Nasuni

Körber

About Körber

Körber is a global technology group serving various industries, including manufacturing, logistics, and pharmaceuticals. When the company inherited a fragmented IT landscape with numerous disparate data centers and infrastructure strategies through multiple acquisitions, Körber set out to consolidate IT environments, improve data management and access, and streamline collaboration across business units.

The challenge

Körber’s IT environment was historically built through acquisitions, resulting in a highly siloed and non-standardized infrastructure.

With multiple Windows file servers and varied office file environments, managing storage across the enterprise became increasingly complex and costly.

As part of a larger cloud-first strategy, Körber sought to centralize its data center footprint and create a uniform operating model. The goal was to migrate engineering and office file workloads to the cloud to reduce hardware investments, improve performance, and enhance data protection. While they evaluated native cloud file storage offerings from AWS and Azure, Nasuni’s high availability, cost-efficiency, and ease of integration stood out.

How Nasuni helped Körber

Nasuni integrates seamlessly with Siemens Teamcenter and other engineering apps.

Nasuni enabled Körber to migrate its Teamcenter environments to the cloud with minimal disruption. The platform now supports a range of engineering applications—from mechanical to electrical—across globally distributed teams. Office file shares were also migrated, enabling broader collaboration.

“We run our Teamcenter in the cloud with Nasuni, and it worked fine from the start,” says Constantin Frey, Subdomain Lead Cloud Services at Körber. “That success convinced us to use it for our general file shares as well.”

Nasuni streamlined and standardized IT operations.

Körber replaced a patchwork of legacy systems with a standardized global file platform. This has simplified daily IT operations like setting up shares or restoring files and created a scalable model for future acquisitions. With Nasuni’s professional services team, Körber built a repeatable migration playbook to speed up the onboarding of new companies.

Stronger disaster recovery and ransomware resilience with Nasuni.

With Nasuni, Körber now benefits from automatic immutable snapshots every five minutes, significantly improving its disaster recovery posture. These capabilities are especially valuable for security and governance, offering peace of mind without requiring complex, legacy backup systems.

“We couldn’t always guarantee recovery before. Now with Nasuni, it’s every five minutes—and forever. That’s a big relief from a security perspective,” says Frey.

We had all different kinds of infrastructure—different vendors, hardware, solutions. Nasuni gave us a way to bring it all under one operating model.”

The Nasuni difference

Nasuni provided Körber a unified platform to modernize its global file infrastructure, reduce IT complexity, and support its digital transformation goals. The company is now positioned to finish its multi-year cloud migration, further automate IT services, and explore cost-saving strategies like tiering older files to lower-cost storage classes.

When reflecting on Körber’s experience with Nasuni, Frey notes, “With Nasuni, we’re not just modernizing our infrastructure—we’re enabling a new level of operational efficiency, security, and cloud scalability.”
