In your network, the Nasuni Filer looks and feels just like a traditional storage controller – ensuring that end-users and applications have the exact same experience on a Nasuni Filer as they would on an array from the traditional vendors. Specifically, the Nasuni Filer can be used to handle both NAS and SAN workloads. Nasuni Filers are used for storage applications from 3D modeling to litigation support to file services and even server virtualization. Nasuni was the first Cloud-integrated Storage (CiS) vendor to offer both NAS and SAN capability and is the only vendor to offer integrated mobile file access over HTTPS.
The on-premises Nasuni Filer delivers local storage performance with a minimal footprint. Even though customers store hundreds of TBs with Nasuni, each Filer only caches the most important and most frequently accessed files. Using sophisticated and proprietary caching algorithms, Nasuni customers achieve local performance with only a small percentage of the dataset in their local storage. This means less hardware and lower costs for customers.
UniFS® is Nasuni’s file system that bridges NAS and SAN access to the scalable object storage of the cloud. It is the only file system of its kind and can scale from hundreds to hundreds of billions of objects without any degradation of performance. Nasuni customers already store millions of snapshots in the cloud and billions of files representing petabytes of data.
This patented capability allows Nasuni to conquer the limits of traditional snapshots and eliminate additional backup requirements. Unlike hardware-based systems where snapshots are a limited resource, Nasuni systems can contain millions of snapshots replicated to multiple datacenters offsite using cloud storage. Using Nasuni, files and blocks from previous snapshots can be recovered in a matter of minutes – regardless of whether the snapshot is from three days or three years ago.
The family of Nasuni Filers scale to deliver the optimal solution in every office – ranging from the corporate data center all the way to remote and branch locations. Some locations will need the performance of SSD storage and large amounts of RAM while other locations may need lots of local storage and can sacrifice raw speed. Nasuni Filers truly are software defined storage – the same code in hardware appliances is available as a virtual machine. Nasuni’s storage controllers communicate directly with the cloud – never with one another, ensuring they are leveraging the unlimited bandwidth of the cloud and not the limited connectivity of your offices. Before any bits are transmitted, data is chunked, compressed and deduplicated against the global file system so that nothing is sent twice.
All data stored with Nasuni is encrypted both in flight and at rest in the cloud using customer controlled keys. Using established security protocols, the Nasuni Filer encrypts all data before transmission using military-grade AES-256 encryption. Nasuni further employs the open-source and highly efficient OpenPGP standard for key management – a standard that supports an extensive and thorough review process in the public domain.
