Cloud storage is often thought of for secondary storage like backup and archives. Nasuni a new startup based in Natick, Massachusetts is attempting to change that line of thinking and enable small to medium sized businesses to leverage the cloud by partnering with providers like Iron Mountain to create a “primary storage on demand” environment. They are delivering a virtual file server that provides unlimited file storage and complete file protection for SMB data centers. The Nasuni Filer software retains the local performance and functionality of a NAS appliance but eliminates the need for massive amounts of local storage by tapping into the vast capacity and off-site protection of providers like Iron Mountain.
