Taking the Cloud Gateway to the Next Level

Since we unveiled the Nasuni Filer earlier this year, we have been getting great feedback from our users. We have been listening: Our engineering team is always working to make the Filer better. Today we’re pleased to announce a major new release, the Nasuni Filer 2.0. This new release, our first since our launch, adds full support for Hyper-V server virtualization, Distributed File System (DFS) namespaces, and Windows Previous Versions. We’ve improved the user experience through a number of new features and UI changes, added another leading cloud partner, Microsoft’s Windows Azure, begun allowing customers to bring their own cloud credentials, and opened up support for private clouds. With private cloud support, Managed Service Providers (MSPs) will now be able to use Nasuni to provide complete cloud storage solutions to customers. Overall, the Nasuni Filer 2.0 delivers a superior cloud gateway technology.

We want the Filer to enable more businesses to take advantage of cloud storage and expand the functionality of file servers. The Filer 2.0 does both. It broadens our reach in the Windows community and adds a number of user-friendly features designed to alleviate some of the pain in today’s IT departments.

Hyper-V

The Filer was always delivered as a virtual machine and supported most VMware platforms, but customers have been requesting that we add Microsoft’s Hyper-V, an increasingly popular virtualization platform, since day one. Now it is fully tested and up and running.

Windows Azure

Adding a new cloud partner to our roster is no small job – we rigorously test each cloud. The functionality, performance and quality of the Azure cloud is up there with the best, and we’re proud to offer it to our customers.

Other Windows Features

Generally the Filer 2.0 has a tighter integration with the Windows platform. The new release supports Windows DFS (Distributed File System), a technology that most IT administrators are familiar with. Windows Previous Versions is available now as well. In tandem with the Filer’s snapshot feature, this allows end-users to easily restore previous versions of files...without having to bother IT.

Private Clouds

For companies that want the accessibility and geographic spread of the cloud with the security, control and visibility of on-site storage, we’re now supporting private clouds for platforms that we support. This will also allow Managed Service Providers (MSPs) to offer complete cloud storage solutions to their customers via partners such as Rackspace OpenStack, EMC Atmos, and Nirvanix Hybrid Cloud.

These are just a few of the highlights. We’ve also updated the UI based on feedback from our customers and implemented several network-related changes, including adding new network performance/utilization charts.

We’re excited that we’re now able to offer the Filer to a broader spectrum of the Windows community, but we’re also anxious to hear what our existing customers and trial users think of the improved user experience and added features.
