New Release: A Quick Patch

Last week we were excited to announce that the Nasuni Filer now supports Nirvanix. The new release went very well, but we did uncover a glitch that affected a few of our users.

The problem applied to only a small portion of the community – users who had downloaded the Nasuni Filer previously, but for one reason or another had not yet spun it up until after the Nirvanix release.  If these individuals then selected “automatic” for cloud provider selection during installation and were given Nirvanix as a trial provider, Nirvanix would not have worked due to outdated code in their copy of the Filer.

Now, the good news here is that we were able to fix this problem immediately (1.0-2072).  The Nasuni Filer moves your data directly to and from the cloud—your files have no contact with our servers—but the technology does occasionally connect with Nasuni.com.  We discussed our alert system in a previous post, and it has come through for us once again.

In this case, we received an alert from one of the Filers informing us of the problem.  We quickly figured out a solution, then reached out to the customer and suggested they re-install.

We did not anticipate building an absolutely perfect, flawless system.  Bugs happen.  But the Filer and its support system ensure that we know about any problems as soon as possible.

Then we fix them.
